We live in a world where the first instinct when something happens, good or bad, is to grab our phone. Whether it’s calling a friend, scrolling for distractions, or posting on social media, our hands almost naturally reach for that device. But what if our first response wasn’t the phone, but the throne, the throne of God?
The phone connects us to people. The throne connects us to the King. The phone gives us opinions. The throne gives us wisdom. The phone can leave us more confused. The throne gives us peace that passes all understanding.
When we’re hurting, worried, angry, or even celebrating, the throne should be our first stop. God says, “Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know” (Jeremiah 33:3). That’s not just a nice verse, it’s a promise.
It’s easy to call a friend, vent to a family member, or seek validation online. We crave quick comfort, instant advice, and human connection. But sometimes the very people we run to are struggling themselves. They can’t see what God sees. They can’t carry what only God can carry. Even with the best intentions, people will fail us. Their words may soothe for a moment but leave us with doubts, confusion, or even worse, opinions that pull us away from God’s will.
God’s throne is the place where we find mercy, grace, and direction. Hebrews 4:16 reminds us: “Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.” At the throne, you don’t need to filter your words. You don’t need to worry about being judged. You don’t need to question if your problem is too small or too big. God welcomes it all.
When you go to the throne first, you’re reminded that your situation isn’t in the hands of people, it’s in the hands of the One who holds the whole world.
Let’s be honest, phones can distract us. One minute you’re looking for encouragement, the next you’re comparing your life to someone else’s highlight reel. You end up feeling worse than before. But when you go to God, He doesn’t give you comparison, He gives you clarity. He doesn’t give you pressure, He gives you peace. He doesn’t leave you empty, He fills you with strength.
What would change in your life if you paused before picking up the phone and went to God in prayer first? Before calling a friend, talk to your Father. Before posting your feelings, pour them out to Him. Before seeking advice, ask the Holy Spirit for guidance. God is not your last resort, He should be your first response.
The next time life shakes you, remember this: Don’t go to the phone. Go to the throne. Because your breakthrough, your peace, and your answers won’t come from a text message or a social media feed, they come from the One who knows you, loves you, and holds every detail of your life in His hands.
How would things look different if you chose to go straight to the throne instead? Share your story below, you never know who needs the encouragement.
